About this coffee:

In Kenya's traditional system planning, farmers send coffee to a processing plant and obtain a certificate at the processing plant. The coffee entering the factory that day is made into batches and sent to bidding. The bidding is over and the money goes to the bidding center. After the bidding center draws the money, the cooperatives, the cooperatives and the processing plants are drawn separately, and then the remaining money is distributed to the farmers. The amount is distributed according to the proportion of the batch, and the farmers finally get the money after 4 months.

In this process, farmers not only do not have a real understanding of 'quality', but they also have to bear the pressure of more than three months of capital flow in the process.

The weight-based system forces farmers to rack their brains to increase the weight of coffee berries in exchange for the highest reward, so they often use large amounts of fertilizers and pesticides to make coffee grow smoothly. But also because of the long-term use of these agents, the vitality of the soil declines, and the coffee does not get enough nutrients, which reduces the quality of the cup and also reduces the yield!

The reduction in quality eventually affects the transaction price of coffee, which lowers the income level of farmers. In the end, it is a pity that farmers are often unable to make ends meet so that they abandon farming and change jobs. In recent years, due to the problems of output and transaction price, many farmers decided to abandon farming, resulting in a substantial reduction in the output of the factory, even close to the state of closing the factory.

Observed at that time, what was more urgent to solve was the income problem of farmers. It includes the time when the income is too low and the actual payment. After discussing with our partners, to solve this problem, we decided to contract, as the name implies, contract farming.

Therefore, we signed the cooperation contract before the season and settled in before the end of January. Among them, some incentive measures have been laid down. We hope that farmers will have a better income without having to bear the pressure of the capital flow.

In addition to signing contracts in advance, we also require local education and seminars to be held to help farmers produce better quality berries. After the 19/20 production season, the epidemic conditions were relatively relieved, and farmers were given many tips and training for non-production seasons. In addition, because Kenyan traditional fruit picking is a red harvest, many fruits have not yet reached a better ripeness. We took some time to adjust this, and we also asked the farmers to do our best to cooperate.

In the 20/21 season, such a contractual relationship is on the right track, and we have successfully harvested high-quality and mature berries. After we got these berries, we put them on a tanning bed after picking them out. Strictly control the process of exposure and the stirring of the fruit on the tanning bed. It maintains cleanliness and adds some tanning properties to the coffee. The successful operation this season also made the 186 farmers of the treatment plant quite happy.
