Our first ever origin offering from Rwanda comes from the southern region of Huye. Traditional Bourbon variety is wet-processed which is displayed in the cup by light and crisp fruity notes (black cherries, citruses), followed by brown sugar and caramel in the aftertaste.
This coffee has been traditionally processed, picked, pre-soaked and pulped before fermentation. Due to the unique characteristics of the land and climate, the producers have achieved an exceptional coffee, having earned many rewards from the Rwanda Cup of Excellence in 2013 and 2014.
Among the farmers are survivors of the Tutsi Genocide, including 20 women part of the Ngomatyazo Widows Association. Their involvement in the industry offers hope and comfort for the future. Producers directly enjoy the benefits of micro-lot purchases, receiving premiums that allow for improved quality of life and living standards including the ability to invest in livestock, access to healthcare and programs to protect the environment.
We have chosen a lot which displayed the most complex and delicate flavour profile. Comparing to other coffees from this region, Huye Mountain lot has intensive plum acidity as well as floral and delicate finish.
