Mochalava - Mocha Java Blend
How Mochalava tastes
Brew & pairing
Forgiving across every method. Shines as a milky espresso or an easy morning pour-over. Whole bean keeps it freshest — grind just before you brew.
What people say
Roasted to order — 300g packs ship within 24 hours; 1kg packs are roasted fresh and ship within 1-2 working days.
A Bold, Low-Acid Dark Roast Built on the Original Mocha Java
Mochalava is our tribute to Mocha Java, the oldest known coffee blend. Indonesian beans bring cocoa depth and a syrupy body; Ethiopian beans lift it with berry sweetness and floral aromatics. Roasted dark for chocolate and molasses, it stays rich without turning harsh.
Tasting Notes
Dark Chocolate · Toffee · Berry
Full-bodied and syrupy with low acidity, a long chocolate finish, and just enough fruit to keep it from sitting flat.

About This Coffee
The pairing goes back to the days when coffee from Yemen's port of Mocha was shipped alongside coffee from Java, and drinkers discovered the two tasted better together than apart. Our version keeps that logic. The Indonesian component carries the weight — deep cocoa, earthy richness, and the heavy mouthfeel that makes the blend read as dessert. The Ethiopian component does the opposite job, cutting through with berry acidity and floral top notes so the cup finishes bright instead of heavy.
We take it darker than our medium blends to pull the chocolate and molasses forward, stopping short of the point where roast character buries origin. The result suits anyone who wants a bold, comforting cup that is easy on the stomach — strong enough to stand up to milk, clean enough to drink black.
How to Brew Mochalava
| Espresso | 18g in, 22g out (1:1.2) in 28-35 seconds |
| Filter | 20g coffee to 250ml water (1:12) at 93°C |
If your espresso pulls too fast or tastes thin, grind a little finer; if it chokes or turns harsh, grind coarser. For filter, dial the grind to land your brew between roughly 2:30 and 3:30 minutes.
How Much Coffee Is in a Bag?
At 18g per cup, a 300g bag brews about 16 cups — roughly RM2.44 a cup. The 2 x 300g pack gives you about 33 cups at RM2.27 each, and the 1kg bag about 55 cups at RM2.16. Cheaper than the café, and you control the grind.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Mochalava better for espresso or filter?
Both. It is roasted dark enough to pull a rich, chocolatey shot, and the 1:12 filter recipe keeps the berry notes readable. If you only brew one way, espresso shows off the body best.
What does Mochalava taste like?
Dark chocolate and toffee up front, a syrupy full body, and a berry lift on the finish. Low acidity throughout, so it reads smooth rather than sharp.
Is it good with milk?
Yes. The heavy body and cocoa depth cut straight through milk, which makes it a strong choice for lattes, flat whites and iced milk coffee.
How fresh is the coffee?
300g packs ship within 24 hours of roasting. 1kg packs are roasted fresh to order and ship within 1-2 working days. Beans hit their peak 7 to 30 days after the roast date printed on the bag.
Do you offer free shipping?
Yes. Free shipping within Malaysia on orders over RM80.
