Black Forest is our answer to a simple question: can a dark roast be bold AND smooth?
Yes. Absolutely yes. This is a full-bodied, zero-acidity dark roast that hits you with rich milk chocolate sweetness on the first sip. Then the cherry comes through, not sour cherry, not bright cherry, a deep, sweet, ripe cherry like the kind you'd find in a Black Forest gateau. The finish is all caramel and cream, lingering long after the cup is empty.
We roast this blend darker than most of our range, but we stop just short of the oils breaking through. That's the sweet spot, maximum body and intensity without any bitterness or char. The result is a coffee that's incredibly smooth for how dark it is. If you've ever been burned by a dark roast that tasted like ash, this is your redemption.
Roast Level: Dark
Process: Natural / Washed
SCA Score: 83+
Acidity: Zero — by design
Black Forest is a four-origin blend, and every origin earns its place:
Brazil deep, sweet cocoa character that forms the base of every cup. It's what gives Black Forest its smooth, rounded body and warmth.
Peru balanced caramel depth that connects the chocolate base to the brighter top notes. The origin most people don't notice, but would miss instantly if it were gone.
Ethiopia subtle cherry brightness that lifts the cup out of one-dimensional heaviness. No citrus, no florals — just a gentle sweetness that keeps each sip interesting.
Indonesia Earthy richness and a creamy, almost buttery texture. Combined with the Brazilian chocolate, it creates that zero-acidity smoothness that defines this blend.
Black Forest is built for bold brewing. Here's how to get the most out of it:
Espresso (Ristretto Style) — Our Recommendation 18g in, 18g out. That's a 1:1 ratio — tighter than a standard espresso. Pull it in 28-35 seconds. This ristretto-style extraction concentrates the chocolate and cherry flavours into an intense, syrupy shot. If you drink your espresso straight, this is how Black Forest was designed to be enjoyed.
Latte or Flat White. Pull the ristretto shot (18g/18g), then add 150-180ml of steamed milk at 65 degrees C. The concentrated chocolate base cuts through milk beautifully — this is one of the richest lattes you'll ever make at home. Black Forest was designed to pair with milk.
Filter / Pour Over 20g coffee, 250ml water at 93 degrees C. That's a 1:12 ratio — stronger than typical filter. Use a medium-coarse grind and aim for a 3:30-4:00 minute total brew time. The result is a smooth, full-bodied cup with pronounced chocolate and subtle cherry sweetness.
French Press 20g coffee, 250ml water at 95 degrees C. Steep for 4:30 minutes (slightly longer than usual to extract the full body from the dark roast). Press slowly. The French press brings out Black Forest's creamy texture more than any other method.
Cold Brew 50g coarsely ground coffee, 500ml room-temperature water. Steep for 18-24 hours in thefridge. Strain through a fine mesh filter. Black Forest makes an exceptionally smooth cold brew — the zero acidity means no harsh, sour notes even after extended brewing.

Dark roasted beans are more porous than lighter roasts, they degas faster and lose flavour quicker if not stored properly. That's why freshness matters even more for Black Forest than for our lighter blends.
Roasted daily. Ships within 24 hours of your order. You'll receive beans that were roasted the same day or the day before you open the bag. We don't pre-roast and warehouse; your kilo bag is roasted when you buy it.
Every bag is sealed with a one-way degassing valve that lets CO2 escape without letting oxygen in. This means your beans stay at peak freshness for weeks — but honestly, with Black Forest, most customers finish the bag well before that.
For best results: Use within 3 weeks of the roast date printed on your bag. Dark roast beans hit their flavour peak between days 5-14 after roasting, and the chocolate and cherry notes are most pronounced in this window. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Don't put them in the fridge.
