Barrie first discovered specialty coffee at a friend’s café, Mollydooker’s Coffee. He learnt the trade from Barista to Roaster at various independent cafes in London. His passion inspired him to go into coffee education in which he took SCAE courses at London School of Coffee. He founded Bellboys Cafe in central London right after, whilst managing a franchise business there. He started Collective upon returning to Malaysia, which focuses on sourcing, roasting and supplying quality coffees to cafes and consumers across Asia as well as educating consumers about specialty coffee. Certified in Roasting and Sensory science, Barrie continues working closely with LSC on industry developments.
Collective is a retail roastery equipped with a 5kg Probat roaster, a lab and an education center for specialty coffee enthusiasts. Serve as a platform for cafe owners, aspiring baristas and people of the same passion to share ideas, innovation and insights of the coffee industry.
Barrie and Hashraf continuously strive to set the bar by focusing on education, transparency and of course, great coffee, with the intention to expand the community of coffee enthusiasts for the good of the industry.
