About This Coffee
4 Llamas was founded by Bolivian growers Andres and Marita, who set out to put their homeland on the global coffee map through sustainable, community-driven farming. High in the Andean foothills around Caranavi, they cultivate micro-lots using layered agroforestry and permaculture design, building resilience into the land while protecting the ecology around it.
That same care carries into processing. A purpose-built mill keeps water use low at scale, and an in-house treatment system handles the environmental cost of wet milling. Classic washed and natural lots form the backbone of each harvest, but the team also pushes into precision fermentation, tracking temperature, Brix and pH with real intent. This lactic washed Catuai is the result: clean, bright and genuinely expressive.
The wider Familia 4 Llamas project shares fermentation infrastructure, technical mentorship and export know-how with smallholder growers across Bolivia, building lasting partnerships rooted in producer dignity rather than one-off deals.

Tasting sharp or sour instead of sweet? Grind a touch finer or pull a little longer. If it turns bitter or hollow, back the grind off slightly until the fruit and chocolate come back into balance.
How Much Coffee Is in a Bag?
The 283g bag brews roughly 16 espressos at 18g per shot, or close to 19 filter cups at 15g each. The 2lb (907g) bag stretches to around 50 espressos or 60 filter cups. For a lactic washed Bolivia of this clarity, that is a generous run of a genuinely rare and expressive single origin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this coffee better as espresso or filter?
Both work beautifully, which is why we list a recipe for each. As espresso it leans sweet and chocolatey with a citrus lift; as filter it opens up juicy and tea-like, showing more mandarin and melon. Pick whichever brewer you already own.
What does Bolivia 4 Llamas taste like?
Bright and clean, with mandarin orange and melon up front, brown sugar sweetness through the middle, and a milk chocolate finish. The lactic washed process adds a soft, rounded body without losing clarity.
What is lactic washed processing?
It is a washed coffee fermented under conditions that encourage lactic acid bacteria, which build extra sweetness and a creamier body while keeping the clean, defined character of a classic washed cup.
How fresh will my coffee be?
We roast in Kuala Lumpur and ship within one week of your roast date. These beans are at their best two to three weeks after roasting, so they arrive ready to dial in and hold their sweetness for weeks.
