About This Coffee

This is the first Ecuadorian lot of the new harvest, and we shipped it quickly so you can taste it close to its origin. The result is an unusual, memorable cup: ripe crushed grapefruit, tart green grape and a steeped black-tea quality that ties it all together.

Abraham Armijos is a young producer who began growing coffee in 2022. He farms just one hectare of coffee alongside fruit trees in the highlands of Loja. After hand-selecting only ripe cherry, the depulped cherry rests in tanks for around 24 hours, then moves through a washing and soaking step before drying under a covered greenhouse for up to 17 days.

The variety, Typica Mejorado, is an Ecuadorian hybrid of Bourbon and Ethiopian heirloom. Much like many Ethiopian coffees, it shines with a slightly coarser grind, which softens the acidity and lets the florals and fruit come forward.

How to Brew Ecuador Abraham Armijos

Filter
Brewing ratio 1 : 17
Ground coffee 16g
Total water 250ml
Water temperature 93°C
Brew time 3 minutes

Start a touch coarser than usual. If the cup tastes sharp or thin, grind a little finer; if it turns bitter or heavy, go coarser and let the fruit and florals lead.

How Much Coffee Is in a Bag?

At the recipe ratio of 16g per cup, a 250g bag makes around 15 to 16 filter cups, and a 1kg bag makes roughly 62 cups. With only one hectare in production, this is a small, seasonal lot, so every cup is worth slowing down for.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this better as espresso or filter?
Filter. This is a light-roasted, bright washed coffee built for pour-over and other filter methods, where its grapefruit, green grape and black-tea notes have room to shine.

What does Ecuador Abraham Armijos taste like?
Bright and tea-like. Expect ripe crushed grapefruit, tart green grape and a steeped black-tea finish, with crisp acidity and a light, clean body.

How fresh is it?
We roast to order and ship within one week of your roast date. This coffee is at its best two to three weeks after roasting, so there is no rush to brew it straight away.

Any brewing tip?
Grind a little coarser than you normally would. Like many Ethiopian-lineage coffees, Typica Mejorado opens up with a coarser grind, giving a sweeter, more balanced cup.

Do you offer free shipping?
Yes. Free shipping within Malaysia on orders over RM80.
