About This Coffee

This is Lot #17 in Ethiopia's Cup of Excellence programme — the country's most rigorous coffee competition, where lots are cupped hundreds of times by domestic and international judging panels before earning a place. A Cup of Excellence win is a rare badge of quality, and tasting one is a genuine treat.

The coffee is named for its producer, Tafo Hero Gurajche, a 38-year-old farmer from Sidama who has grown coffee for 17 years — nearly his entire adult life. Married with seven children, Tafo describes coffee as a lifeline that sustains his family and community. That care shows in the cup: ripe natural-process fruit, layered citrus and a clean, sweet finish.

How to Brew Ethiopia Tafo Natural

Filter
Brewing ratio 1 : 17
Ground coffee 16g
Total water 250ml
Water temperature 93°C
Brew time 3 minutes

Want more sweetness and body, grind a touch finer; if it tastes sharp or thin, grind coarser to balance the cup.

How Much Coffee Is in a Bag?

The 200g bag brews around 13 filter cups at 16g per cup. As a Cup of Excellence-winning microlot, this is a small, finite amount of a coffee most drinkers never get to try — savour it cup by cup rather than rushing through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this coffee better for filter or espresso?
Filter. This light-roasted natural Ethiopian is built for pour-over and other filter methods, where its mandarin, pineapple and bright citrus come through cleanest. Start with the 1:17 filter recipe above.

What does it taste like?
Juicy and fruit-forward: mandarin orange and pineapple over bright citrus acidity, with a clean, sweet finish typical of a well-made natural process coffee.

How fresh is it?
We ship whole bean within 24 hours of your order. The beans reach their peak 2 to 3 weeks after the roast date, so there is plenty of runway to brew them at their best.

What makes a Cup of Excellence coffee special?
Cup of Excellence is Ethiopia's toughest coffee competition. Winning lots are cupped hundreds of times by expert panels, so a win signals exceptional quality and traceability right back to the producer.

Do you offer free shipping?
Yes. We offer free shipping within Malaysia on orders over RM80. Your beans are roasted fresh in Kuala Lumpur and shipped whole bean.
